twin hills dotted with black pores
like dead yucca sprouts

shaded with the chalk of collected
dyes, smeared with earth-color

the way feet dirty themselves in
summer; twin earrings

dangle—heavy buds on sumac
framing the ridge, over

which skin stretches the way heat
stretches over a desert
