this (coming) year in film

13 Jan

some exciting ones:

Where the Wild Things Are, with a screenplay co-written by Dave Eggers (What is the What) and directed by Spike Jonze (Adaptation, Being John Malkovich).

* * * *
The Fantastic Mr. Fox, a stop-motion animation adaptation of Roald Dahl’s children’s book. Directed by Wes Anderson (The Darjeeling Limited, The Life Aquatic) and voiced by, of course, Bill Murray, Cate Blanchett, Jason Schwartzman, and Anjelica Huston. Yes please.

* * * *
The Road, with Viggo Mortensen (A History of Violence) as the unnamed man in Cormac McCarthy’s (Blood Meridian) Pulitzer-winning novel.

* * * *
The Lovely Bones, could be an utter failure (given Peter Jackson’s less-than subtle film style and the super-stardom Alice Sebold’s novel won in the teenage wasteland), but with Mark Wahlberg and Rachel Weisz signed on, and with Brian Eno doing the score, perhaps it has some promise.
